Heroes 4 Card Game: More on Storm Winds Expansion

The new H4 CTG Storm Winds Expansion site has just opened and contains over a dozen card images. The original game lacked somewhat in the artifacts department - the expansion aims to remedy this. Other notable additions are the expansion creatures and all of the advanced hero classes, with their respective special bonuses. Among those cards we will find the enshrined heroes - important players and contributors who have an advanced hero card drawn and named after them. They will surely get quite a gaming experience: "Hmmm... which hero should I choose... how about... me!"

Heroes 4 CTG: Death Cards Gallery & Heroes 5 Cutscenes!

Poll was conducted to let people decide which alignment they want revealed next for the Heroes 4 Card and Tile Game: Life or Death. Death won 12 to 1, nobody wants a Life ;) So here it is, the complete Death Cards Gallery! That leaves Life and the gallery will be completed.

In other news, Ubisoft revealed Heroes V Cutscene Screens, which seem to be done in Warcraft 3 style. You can see them all in our gallery. If the game will come with an editor that allows mapmakers to create such scenes, it will be amazing.

The Craziest 1st April Joke Ever! :D

Last year we fooled people into thinking Heroes Community was being taken over by McDonalds (McHeroes Community). This year we had to do even better than that. It all started off with FriendOfGunnar's superb selection of avatars that were assigned to their respective new owners. Then a couple of members started fighting and a moderator started flooding the forums and handing out red star bonuses to anyone who made fun of ICTC (this was all pre-arranged). Eventually I showed up and told them all off, but RedSoxFan3 (the moderator) didn't listen to me and continued his "abuse of moderator powers", and other people jumped on the wagon. All this set the perfect stage to unleash my drama which was about how little appreciation I get for so much work, and that in fact, in order to reduce spam and improve the quality of HC, a membership fee of $5 per month would be imposed.

Fellow pranksters posted heated responses about how stupid my decision was, or about how reasonable the fee is, and people bought it! In fact I even got an appreciation thread and was also called a Stalin. Some people started making payment arrangements and some others swore to leave HC. The three-layer joke masterplan was pulled off with excellent success. From the whole team of pranksters we thank you for the fun and look forward to this exciting year of HOMM5 on the free Heroes Community ;)

Heroes IV CCTG: Storm Winds Expansion

Just like the computer game, the Heroes IV Card Game has also spawned an expansion pack. The name, a combination of both The Gathering Storm and the Winds of War, suggests that this may well be the only expansion for the game, following the announcement of the Heroes V Card Game earlier this year. Among other things, Heroes IV Storm Winds will contain:

"...all of the Advanced Hero classes available in the computer games, new locations and heroes, as well as all of the creatures from both computer expansions. Recruit Dark Champions and Frenzied Gnashers, become an Assassin or a Lord Commander, and battle the ultimate guards – the Megadragons!"

We confirmed the expansion release date to be early June 2006.

    Heroes Community Spotlight

At Library of Englightenment, Xarfax111's new thread Not in the Manual is a wildfire. Already over 100 things about HOMM3 that are not in the manual are listed. Some very interesting hard to get facts there.

Vlaad has been active making some excellent articles:
Artifacts of Might and Magic (some very interesting background for the artifacts)
On the Aesthetics of the Adventure Map (with pictures)
    Mapmaker's Compendium (links and tools)

And down at the Taven, TNT_Addict continues his search for the Worlds Sexiest Woman, while FriendOfGunnar attempts to psychoanalyse a strange Titan Addiction. Both fail :)

Also, we need a name for the new Heroes 5 forum at Heroes Community - have your say!

Heroes V: 6 New Sylvan Heroes and an Interview

If you were following the Heroes V Update Box yesterday (having not lived up to its name for a good month and a half), you will have noticed the interview with Heroes V and comic book artist Olivier Ledroit, and its accompanying artworks. The interview contains Olivier's inspirations, design practices, and the unique style he created for Heroes V.

Factions like the undeads or the elves have very strong and established visual codes and Ubisoft wanted to move away from this single vision. This is why the elves in Might&Magic do not only refer to a Celtic imagery but also to American Indians. The Dark elves on the other hand will remind you of the Italian Renaissance.

We can see this in practice with the newly released Sylvan Heroes, which now have the updated English biographies to complement the artwork.
