Lord Crusader's Heroes V Preview

Amidst the chaos of the demo's release, many do not realise that there was a team of dedicated members who provided ideas and ironed out the remaining bugs in the game you may currently be playing - the Heroes V Demo. Team member Lord Crusader was one of these people, and he has written his own account on the game's evolution, and how it will play. Read it all here.

StarForce protection for Heroes 5 - Dropped!

Fabrice Cambounet has confirmed today that StarForce copy protection system will not be used in Heroes of Might and Magic 5. Even though there wasn't solid proof that the system is harmful, some HOMM fans were strongly opposed to it. Today they celebrate :)

Heroes 5 Demo - Almost Ready!

German Ubisoft Website announced that Heroes 5 Demo will be released Thusrday April 13th at 18:00h (probably German time). Namerutan posted the translation. Demo is said to include:

• A map from the Haven Campaign and a map from the Inferno campaign.
• A single player map: "843 YSD: Falcon’s last flight".
• Duel mode with 6 out of 18 heroes playable.

And concerning Heroes Mini, TNT_Addict has written a very useful strategy guide which will help beginners get started and succeed. The game has some major differences from the actual HOMM - it's easy to lose if you don't understand those.

Heroes Mini Web Game

Heroes Mini is the official Heroes of Might and Magic V Mini Game. It has been open for several days, but hasn't yet been announced on the main Might and Magic web site. I think it is still being evaluated.

The game is quite simplistic. You are given 5000 gold, a choice of faction, and selection of creatures to recruit. Then you challenge another player or get challenged (usually involves 3-15 minute wait) and the battle involves issuing 5 orders in advance. An order is ordering one of your three stacks to attack one of the opponent's three stacks. There is no battlefield as such. No heroes, magic or special abilities. You get gold based on kills in the battle and can hire more creatures for the next battle. There are also medals for various battle achievements and a ranking ladder.

It seems that one of the ways to ace this game is to always try to fully eliminate one of the opponent's stacks, as this gives you an extra gold bonus which is likely to exceed your losses. Game discussion here.

The German Official Site has made 4 new combat themes available to the public; Inferno, Haven, Dungeon and Academy.
Instead of having a number of combat themes that were randomly played in the previous versions, each faction now has their own distinct combat theme.

2 New Academy Heroes, Offline Tournament

The two new Academy heroes can be found on the German Official Site. One of them is a familiar name, resembling a middle-eastern merchant, while the other continues the strong spell-casting tradition within the Academy. Note that it is likely the english sites will soon follow suit, so keep an eye out.

In addition, there is an offline tournament being held by La Torre de Marfil, and being sponsored by Ubisoft Spain, beginning on April 7th, in which each of the three winners receive a Collector's Edition of Heroes V. View all the details here.
