H5 ToE: alternate Academy upgrades

Academy alternative upgrades have been revealed on the official Might and Magic site. Contrary to what seems the common rule, the line-up keeps 2 shooters: Gremlin Saboteur and Combat Mage, with even a better attack than their counterparts. The Gremlin Saboteur can even disable an enemy mechanical unit for 1 turn, like a town tower or a catapult in a siege.

The new Gargoyle (Lvl.2) and Golem (Lvl.3) completely revert the Wizard magic style: the various magic protection and immunities have been replaced by incentives to use destructive magic, even to resurrect his own troops. The Djinn Vizier (Lvl.4) seems to be the less interesting update of the line-up, unless you face a Ranger, of course. The Storm Lord is perfectly equivalent to the Titan stat-wise, but as the name suggest, he masters the storms instead of the lightning, trading a focused one-target ability, against an area effect cloud well suited against enemy shooters.

You can read all the abilities' descriptions.

H5 ToE: alternate Necropolis upgrades

The now expected weekly news about ToE alternate upgrades is about Necropolis today: once again, the line-up has no shooter, but the Lich Master (Lvl.5) can now cast the "Raise Dead" spell, twice!

The Skeleton Warrior (Lvl.1) replaces the Skeleton Archer, which will lead to tough choices in army development: let the Archer stack grow, or put in some Warriors to protect them, with their Large Shield ability and 25% magic protection? At the other end of the line-up, the Horror Dragon (Lvl.7) has lost the Spectral Dragon's Cursing Attack (reduce damage), in exchange for a still mysterious Sorrow Strike. In previous Heroes (H3, H4), Sorrow is a spell that reduces target's Morale. Is that a hint?

Heroes V TotE Screens and Creatures

As previously mentioned, our ongoing server move has resulted in slower than usual and intermittent updates. However, we have been able to update a few of the pages following this busy week.
Concept images that were posted by Vyse on the French Ubi Boards have been uploaded into our gallery, as have the latest batch of four screenshots.
The Inferno Alternate upgrades page is also up. You may have noticed a small addition to the pages, which allows you to compare and contrast the alternate upgrade with their original on each of them.

H5 ToE: alternate Inferno upgrades and other news

News about "Tribes of the East" are coming faster this week, with the 7 Inferno alternative upgrades, all sharing a "smoking demon" theme, rather than the "burning devil" of the classic upgrades. A Nival interview also revealed new details:

  • it will be possible to buy both the classic and alternate upgrade from the same building, and even retrain one into the other
  • Artifact Sets will give bonuses to the hero. For example, the Armor of the Dwarven Kings (4 artifacts):
    • 2 items: +40% magic protection for all creatures
    • 2 items for Rune Mage: additional +10% Spell Power
    • 4 items: Expert Endurance and Expert Deflect Missile for 10 turns on the army at the start of combat
  • the adventure map will see a new terrain for the Orcs, and new buildings including a magic shop selling lvl 4-5 spells, and the Sunken Temple, a Dragon Utopia-equivalent in the water.
  • there will be a prologue campaign to discover the Orcs, and then the 3 announced campaigns: Necromancers (Arantir going after the Dark Messiah), Orcs (Gorthai seeking revenge against humans and mages) and Academy (Zehir leading to the coalition of forces against the demons)

The corresponding info pages are not yet published on AoH, due to the current server move, but I'll make them available as soon as possible. In the meantime, everything is in the forum.

H5 ToE: alternate Dungeon upgrades

After Sylvan last week, we can now discover the new alternative upgrades from Dungeon! They see the return of the Red Dragon, with the new "Incinerate" ability, and the all mysterious "Invisibility" for the Stalker (Lvl.1) and the Shadow Mistress (Lvl.6).

The new Dungeon units pack more stamina and have a more aggressive mood, but they also lack shooters, and will have a harder time reaching the enemy army. Of course, the names and stats are still a work in progress, so we'll just have to wait and see them in action...

H5 ToE: alternate Sylvan upgrades

Ubisoft released some more info today about the upcoming second addon for Heroes 5: Tribes of the East! We now know more about the alternate Sylvan upgrade creatures, which will complement the Sylvan line-up.

All the factions will receive such alternate upgrades, which are expected to share slightly different beliefs from their mainstream counterparts, much like the Haven Renegades in Hammers of Fate. Beside the obvious strategical impact of this horde of new creatures, this should lead Ashan into a more complex political context, with more mature intrigues.

"Heroes 5: Tribes of the East" is planned to be released for fall 2007.

Heroes 5 Manual: 1.5 updates

For those of you playing with the 1.5 version of Heroes V, you can now download the 1.5 updates of the community manuals. English, french and czech versions are already available, others should follow.

Most of the changes in 1.5 are backports of 2.1 features (like Training or Necromancy), with some variations (Dark Energy amounts have been balanced for instance), but there are still differences (Firewall, Swift Striker, Frenzy...). Look at the manual changelog for more, and discuss it with the Heroes Community. Use the manual thread for manual related comments.
